Our values

The Food Cooperatives Network (SKS) is a nationwide community of people and initiatives united by a belief in a fair, democratic, and sustainable food system. We create a collaborative space for food cooperatives that operate locally while collectively driving change across the country.

1. Voluntariness and autonomy

We respect the independence of every cooperative. The Network provides a framework and supports collaboration, but it is local communities that decide how they operate. Membership in our structures is always voluntary and based on engagement.

2. Cooperation and solidarity

We believe that cooperation—not competition—is the key to building resilient and thriving communities. We support one another and share knowledge, experience, and resources. Our goal is also to strengthen local farms and foster fair relationships between producers and consumers.

3. Food sovereignty

We advocate for the right of local communities to decide what they eat and how their food is produced. We strive to ensure broad access to high-quality, local, seasonal, ecological, and fair food.

4. Democracy and equality

We make decisions in a transparent and democratic way. Every member has a voice and the right to influence the direction of their cooperative and the entire Network. We do not tolerate any forms of exclusion or discrimination.

5. Education and awareness

Education is the foundation of change. We work to build public awareness of the importance of healthy food, short supply chains, and responsible consumer choices.

6. Ecology and responsibility

We promote agriculture and food production that is friendly to people, animals, and the environment. We act in the spirit of sustainable development—seeking solutions that support soil regeneration, biodiversity, and climate protection.

7. Community and self-governance

Our strength lies in community. Cooperatives are not only places to buy food but also spaces for building relationships, support, and social engagement. We want every person to feel like a co-creator of this change.
